When you phone for an appointment, some of the following legal requirements might be discussed
- The Notice of Intended marriage form needs to be signed and witnessed no less than one month and one day before you are married. It may be signed up to 18 months before the marriage.
- NB Only one person needs to complete and sign the Notice of Intended Marriage one month and one day before the marriage. The other can sign it later, prior to the marriage.
- Produce your original birth certificate if Australian born.
- Produce a passport or original birth certificate if born outside of Australia.
- If previously married, produce original proof of dissolution i.e. Divorce - Decree Absolute (you can complete the Notice of Intention to Marry after the court hearing and during the one month period prior to the decree becoming absolute) or Death Certificate.
- If either party is under 18, produce the required form of consent.
- Sign a Statutory Declaration before the marriage stating that you are free to marry.
- NB No two persons under the age of 18 can marry.
- On the day of your marriage you will need two witnesses over the age of 18.
