CIVIL MARRIAGE CEREMONY - 11 Step Outline

Step 1:   Introduction ....the marriage party is assembled and the Celebrant addresses the guests

Step 2:   First Reading and/or Blessing of Wedding....the reader addresses the couple

Step 3:   Monitum from Marriage Act....the Celebrant is legally required to state his/her authority to marry

Step 4:   Giving Away of the Bride....person invited to give Bride away

Step 5:   The Asking....Celebrant publicly asks if they are prepared to enter into marriage

Step 6:   The Vows....A legal requirement that a definite statement of commitment be made

              eg I ....take you....to be my husband/wife    A choice of examples is provided

Step 7:   The Ring Ceremony....an exchange or giving of rings

Step 8:   Second Reading and/or Blessing of Wedding

Step 9:   Declaration of Marriage & The Kiss

Step 10: The Register and Certificates are signed

Step 11: The Introduction as Husband and Wife
